Gulsum Tamak was born in 1964 in the city of Gulistan of the Uzbek SSR, in a family of teachers.

After finishing comprehensive and music schools, she entered the vocal department of Gulistan Music College.

In 1981 Gulsum Tamak became the laureate of the young performers contest in Karakalpakiya.

From 1983 to 1988, she studied at Tashkent State Conservatory named after Ashrafi. At the same time, she sang in the opera studio in such operas as Aleko by S. Rachmaninoff, Iolanta by P. Tchaikovsky, Gianni Schicchi by G. Puccini, Faust by S. Gounod and others.

From 1988 to 1998, the artist worked as a soloist and presenter in the Crimean Tatar song and dance ensemble "Khaitarma". At the same time, she also worked as a soloist of Crimean State Philharmonic Society until September 2018.

For 30 years on stage, the musician has visited many countries with tours as well as vocal competitions. In 1989 she performed in the Baltic States, in 1995 - in Germany, 1996 - in Hungary, 1996 and in 2012 - in Turkey, in 2015 - in Kazakhstan.

Besides, Gulsum Tamak also teaches vocals at the music department of Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University and at the children's cultural center "Kyrym Ailesi" in Kyiv.

In 2000 Gulsum Tamak was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Crimea.
