Early years

Bekirova Gulnara was born in Melitopol, Zaporozhye region, in family of deported Crimean Tatars Tasim and Kasida Bekirov’s. She graduated secondary school №1 in Melitopol, as well as music and art schools.

In 1989 she entered the Moscow State Historical and Archival Institute, and graduated in 1994. Specialty-"historian-archivist". Graduate work - "Historical problems of Crimean Tatar people as a part of Russia in the Russian historical literature (end of the eighteenth century - the 40s of the twentieth century.) " Protected "excellent".

Scientific activity

1994-1995 - editor of media review agency " WPS " (Moscow).

In 1995- 2001 - fellow of museum Scientific and Educational and Information Center "Memorial" (Memorial). Program officer of "History of dissent in the USSR" of the Scientific, information and educational center "Memorial" (Moscow). She participated as a scientific editor and author of the introductory essay "Crimean Tatar National Movement" in the international project "Karta" (Warsaw) - Research and Development Center "Memorial" (Moscow) - "Crimean Tatar Initiative" (Simferopol) on the preparation of the "Dictionary of Dissidents countries of Central and Eastern Europe "(published in Poland in 2007 in Polish).

From 2002 to the present - the founder and editor of the site "Crimea and Crimean Tatars" www.kirimtatar.com

In 2006 - 2007 - studied at the International Summer School of gender studies (Foros, Crimea).

From September 2008 to the present - author, editor and presenter on the First Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR. Author project s "Tarikh levhalary" (Pages of History), "Tarikh sedas s " (Voices of History), "The Political History of Gulnara Bekirova".

From October 2008 to February 2015 - lecturer, senior lecturer, associate professor of the Department of History, Faculty of History and Philology in Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University.

From September 2010 to August 2011 - head of the project "Tolerant Textbooks - Tolerant Society", successfully implemented with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.

February 2010 to December 2014 - a participant of project "The Crimean political dialogue" (implemented by the International Peacekeeping the PATRIR Institute with support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Finland). Candidate of Political Science. Member of the Ukrainian PEN-Club.

Achievements

  • Author of ten books, screenwriter of six documentaries, many articles and publications in Ukrainian and foreign media.
  • In 2009 for the monograph “Crimean Tatars. 1941-1991 "was awarded with the International Prize named after Bekir Choban-Zade.
  • Finalist of the book rating "Book of the year-2017".
  • November 2014 to the present - the author of the historical column "Pages of Crimean history" on Crimea.Realii.
  • Deputy Chairman of the Kurultay Special Commission on study of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people.
